16 years of wedded bliss

Each Friday (or sometimes even Saturday), I post Flashback Friday, where I use St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Examen as a guide and usually ask the following questions: For what are you least grateful this past week? For what are you most grateful this past week?

LEAST GRATEFUL

Right now, at this very moment, allergies…and the change in my wife’s work schedule that is wreaking havoc with her sleep schedule. As I have mentioned previously, she has switched from a 4 p.m. to midnight shift to a midnight to 8 a.m. shift. Thankfully, she has several days off for Thanksgiving, but on the flip side, she  has to still stay on her sleep schedule for work, to which she is just adjusting.

MOST GRATEFUL

Again, like last week, that my wife and I have the time off together for both Thanksgiving. Because I accumulated vacation hours that I should have taken earlier in the year, I have a bunch of days off by both holidays, and my wife is lucky enough to have several days off for Thanksgiving and a couple days off after Christmas. Bonus, and most importantly, we both have off today, which happens to be our 16th wedding anniversary. This morning, as I write this between 5  and 6 a.m. here on the East Coast of the U.S., we’re at my parents, where we stayed overnight after Thanksgiving dinner (and football).

Since we’re both up, in about half an hour or so, we’re going to head out and grab breakfast at a Perkins Restaurant on the way home. After that, we’ll go home, where we’ll probably catch up with sleep and spend time with our poor, neglected cat, Seamus (totally tongue in cheek/most spoiled cat on planet). Plus we have plenty of TV to catch up on, including choices of Fringe, Warehouse 13, Breaking Bad, Life on Mars (the U.K. version), to name but a few.

Tomorrow, after I work at the library for most of the day, maybe we’ll go out to dinner and a movie, although it’s looking like it might be a movie at home since our local theater doesn’t seem to want to get Lincoln. For now, we just have to be content to keep watching  this over and over again, and getting goosebumps again and again:
