Staying cool like dat

Each Friday (or Saturday, depending on how lazy I’m feeling), I post Flashback Friday, where I use St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Examen as a guide and usually ask the following questions: For what are you least grateful this past week? For what are you most grateful this past week?

Least grateful

Time thieves that pilfer away my time:  I wrote about them here on the blog earlier in the week (click on link to be taken to the post), but thought I’d mention here again. Primarily, they are Facebook, Twitter and Angry Birds…with Thursday night a new twist thrown into the mix: thinking about Facebook. What I mean by that is that I’m considering whether to delete my Facebook page for my blogs and use just my Facebook profile, but post my blog posts only to certain people, mainly bloggers. The only thing is that I’ve liked the semi-anonymity I have had over the last seven years and have built up the brand name of Unfinished Person, but I’m getting frustrated by the way Facebook has pages set up and not sure if people are actually seeing my blog posts…as you can see, another time thief.

Most Grateful

Air conditioning: I’ve said it before and will say it again. I love me some a/c. I am lucky enough to work at a place where we have air conditioning and on days like earlier this week, I am especially grateful for it. Here at home, my wife and I have a small window air conditioner, but it’s usually enough to cool off most of our small house. We have a neighbor who chooses not to have air conditioner and with whom I watch movies on his large screen projector at his house most Sunday nights. Sometimes, I go there and break out into a sweat, just walking through the front door. Those times, I am so grateful when I can return to our house and crank up the a/c, even if only for a moment — to blow away the heat waves emanating off my being.

So as always, I’ll leave you with the questions: For what are you least grateful and most grateful this past week?

  1. This year’s summer has been unusually hotter.

For me, my biggest timesuck now is Facebook and watching an anime called “One Piece”

It’s about a teenager, who dreams of becoming a Pirate King one day and attain freedom to sail on all the seas.

With more that 500 episodes, It’s going to take me a couple of years to get through it all ! http://www1.watchop.com/

  2. I feel like an ungrateful whiner saying this, but I think I’m least grateful for this heat. I love summer but I feel like we’ve had more than the usual amount of over 90 degree days and I’m ready for fall, and sweatshirts.

This week I’m most grateful for creativity. For the opportunities we have to enjoy others’ creativity, and opportunities to exercise my own.

  3. Hmmm…least grateful for my company’s dress code policy. I feel my personality stifled because it is so arcane and contradictory. Granted, they keep the air conditioning so damn low that wearing what I want to wear in the summer is not practical but I want the options, dammit!

Most grateful? I’m still loving my new house. Sitting here, listening to the crickets and the birds with my beautiful backyard. I don’t think I will ever get tired of coming home or of keeping it looking pretty!
